Show Hidden Files in Finder

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

Or, obviously, "NO", if you want to turn it off.

Don't forget you can use "defaults read" to read the current value.  This value will NOT be set at first, so if you try to read it you will get a "does not exist" warning.

Also, please don't do this via "sudo".  That reads/writes a different plist and won't change your Finder view.

You then have to restart Finder:

  • Hold down the Option key
  • Left-click-and-hold  the Finder icon in the dock until a menu pops up
  • Click "Relaunch"
